Professor John Leach, Dean of Faculty

Our schools

The Faculty consists of four schools and two independent research centres.

Education | Sociology and Social Policy | Politics and International Studies | Law | Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies | Leeds Social Sciences Institute

Our research

We are proud of our research staff and their achievements, particularly the rankings from Education and Sociology and Social Policy in RAE2008.

The considerable research funding our staff receive from a wide range of external bodies reflects the combination of international excellence and the social relevance of our research

Sharing our knowledge and expertise

Our schools and research centres represent an enormous pool of expertise in research and teaching.

We aim to share the knowledge we generate as widely as possible, and we want to contribute to the enrichment of society on a local, regional and global scale.

Staff profile: Dr Michael Denison

"Deep down, I'm interested in power – how it develops and is manifested, and why people serve it."

Michael Denison is a lecturer in international security in the School of Politics and International Studies, but he could, equally, have become an art historian.
